Step Pyramid of Sakkra, the first pyramid in Egypt

The Sakkra pyramid is the prototype of The Pyramids of Giza. It is located in the Sakkra necropolis located south of Memphis, the first capital in Egypt.

The funerary complex of Sakkra is an archaeological site of royal tombs, of noble and high positions of the first dynasties of the Old Empire. The main attraction of the funerary complex is the Step Pyramid of Zoser built in mastabas (steps).

The Step Pyramid of Zoser

It was built around 2,630 BC by Imhotep, architect of history and is made up of 6 mastabas 60 meters high.


Uniqueness 

One of the tombs that are worth visiting in the Sakkra Necropolis is the Kagemni tomb that reflects scenes from the daily life of a great architect.


Tips in Egypt

As the Sakkara necropolis is located in the depth of the desert, it is recommended to be protected from the sun with a hat or a handkerchief especially in the summer.
